Women in Aviation Member (for matching scholarship)

​The Diana Alderete Aviation Scholarship will be awarded to a Latin-American woman with a desire to fly, volunteer, and inspire the next generation of female pilots. The $500 scholarship is for a 99's member and will be awarded to a 99’s Ninety-Nine member who is at least 16 years of age pursuing a private pilot’s license or adding another certificate to their pilot’s license.

WAI Alamo City will match the $500 scholarship to the applicant who is a member of 99s and Women in Aviation and meets the scholarship requirements.

The total scholarship would be $1000 (if scholarship and membership requirements are met.)


New this year: In addition to the WAI Alamo City $500 matching scholarship, a one day pass for the WAI Conference (2025) will be given to the award recipient that meets the WAI Alamo City requirements ($225 value)! The one-day registration will be completed through WAI Alamo City once the recipient confirms they are available to attend the 2025
WAI Conference in Denver, CO. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the flight school. If not used within a year from the award date, the funds will be returned to the scholarship fund.

The following is the required information needed to apply.
  • ●  resume: contact information, work history in an aviation field (if applicable), community service, educational scholarships, awards, and honors, and demonstrated involvement in aviation-related activities
  • ●  copy of your current aviation medical certificate and the last three pages of your pilot logbook (if applicable)
  • ●  two (one-page) recommendation letters
  • ●  typed, descriptive, 500-word essay
    Submit your application only when you have all the necessary files ready. File types include: .txt .doc. .docx. .pdf. Once your application has been submitted, changes cannot be made to your application.

    A descriptive essay should address the following:
  • ●  what motivated you to pursue aviation
  • ●  how your previous training was financed (if applicable)
  • ●  how the scholarship will help you achieve your objective
  • ●  certificates already obtained, date, and flight hours completed (if applicable)

2024 Scholarship application must be submitted by May 31, 2024, to Scholarship Coordinator by email: Donna Shearn at [email protected] (cc: Amanda Alderete at [email protected] and Cheryl Mora at [email protected]). Questions can be sent to same emails.

 Also note – applicant will be invited to attend the WAI Alamo City’s 10 th Anniversary Celebration Dinner, October 10, 2024 to be recognized in attaining this scholarship.
