WAI Alamo City scholarship application

REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES FOR
WOMEN IN AVIATION ALAMO CITY CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Scholarship applications must be emailed by May 15, 2025.
The WAI Alamo City Chapter is dedicated to supporting individuals passionate about pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace. We will be awarding two $1,500 scholarship to applications interested in careers in aviation and aerospace or those who are already in the workforce and want to expand their career in aviation. When scholarship is awarded, the money will be sent directly to the school or training program.

Scholarship Award Details
  • Award Amount: $1,500 each
  • Number of Awards: Two (2)
  • Notification: Recipients will be notified in May.
  • Disbursement: Funds will be disbursed directly to the training institution or program specified in your application.
  • Award Recognition: Recipient will be recognized on May 31, 2025 at the WAI Alamo City annual meeting and through chapter social media.

  1. Membership: Applicants must be current members of Women in Aviation International (WAI) and  WAI Alamo City Chapter.
  2. Educational or Training Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an aviation or aerospace program, or flight training, as demonstrated by enrollment verification or logbook entries.
  3. Prior Experience: Demonstrated prior aviation or aerospace training, coursework, or involvement.
  4. Application Materials:
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume.
    • Descriptive essay addressing the prompts listed below.
  5. Contact Information: Complete contact details, including name, phone number, email, and mailing address on all documents.

Application Requirements
1. Descriptive Essay
Write a detailed essay (400-500 words) addressing the following topics:
  • Your aviation and aerospace history (if any) and future career goals.
  • Steps you have taken or are planning to take to achieve your goals.
  • Where you see yourself professionally in five years.
  • How this scholarship will help you achieve your objectives and address your financial need.
  • Specific training, education, or flight instruction you are seeking assistance for (e.g., flight hours, certifications, academic courses).
  • Details of previous training, including how it was financed.
  • Any educational scholarships, awards, and honors you have received.
  • Information on where you intend to obtain training, including hourly rates for instructors, aircraft, simulators, or other associated costs (if applicable).
  • Your demonstrated involvement in and contributions to aviation activities, such as volunteering or community engagement.
  • Provide a brief explanation of your current financial need and how the scholarship will alleviate your financial challenges.
2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume (highlights)
  • Educational background and degrees (if applicable).
  • Official transcripts or verification of GPA (if applicable)
  • Aviation or aerospace training and certifications.
  • Work experience, including internships and volunteer activities in the aviation or aerospace fields.
  • Awards, honors, or recognitions.
3. Verification of Enrollment
Submit proof of current (or future) enrollment in a relevant aviation or aerospace program or flight training. This may include:
·       Enrollment (acceptance) verification letter.
·       Recent logbook entries (last three pages) showing flight training progress.
·       Pilot’s certificate, current medical.
4. Recommendation Letter Documentation
Submit a one-page recommendation letter written by a teacher, co-worker, aviation professional, etc.  No family members.

Evaluation Criteria
Scholarship applications will be evaluated based on the following:
  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to a career in aviation or aerospace.
  • Quality and clarity of the descriptive essay.
  • Relevance of prior experience and training, if applicable.
  • Academic and professional achievements.
  • Financial need.
  • Evidence of active involvement in aviation or aerospace-related activities.
