This year, Women in Aviation Alamo City marked a significant milestone with their 10th Anniversary Dinner, celebrating a decade of achievements in empowering women in the aviation industry. The event brought together a vibrant community of aviation enthusiasts, industry leaders, and dedicated supporters in San Antonio, highlighting the incredible accomplishments of the organization over the past ten years. Caroline "Blaze" Jensen, former USAF Thunderbirds pilot, was the keynote speaker, inspiring all in attendance. Melinda Ramirez, WAI Alamo City's past president was recognized for her dedication, leadership, and service which launched WAI Alamo City into the aviation community during the beginning years. The San Antonio aviation community showed up for the dinner in full force, demonstrating their commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for future generations of female aviators. Generous donations were pivotal in making this year’s dinner a memorable occasion. The organization has successfully launched mentorship initiatives, connecting seasoned professionals with newcomers to guide them in their careers, fostering a supportive network that encourages growth and development.
WAI Alamo City awarded their "Top Gun" awards to Jesus Saenz Jr, Director, San Antonio Airports (SAT and SSF), Martin Morris, Manager, Stinson Municipal Airport (SSF 2nd oldest continually operating airport in the U.S. and WAI Alamo City chapter's home base) and Rebecca Viagran, Former District Councilwomen, whose support and partnerships during the past decade made and impact for the chapter's growth. The Dee Howard Foundation organization was also recognized as GIAD's biggest and longest supporter. The Junior Member Awards were given to recognize the chapter's junior members who excelled with their contributions in each category. Gabriella Casias, Junior Trailblazer Award, made history as the chapter's first junior member to successfully complete the prestigious U.S. Air Force Aim High Academy program in 2023, influencing two other junior members to apply. Yazmin Garcia, Junior Volunteer Award, recognized for her passion for service and commitment to chapter events as well as other organizations. Makayla Campa-Hernandez, Junior Philanthropist Award, recognized for contributing to the chapter's philanthropic efforts of giving back to the San Antonio community and other organizations.
The organization raised significant funds, surpassing previous years, to provide scholarships that will directly impact the scholarship program, enabling even more women to access education and training in aviation. The Women in Aviation Alamo City remains focused on expanding its reach and impact by enhancing existing programs and creating new initiatives that will continue to break down barriers for women in aviation. With the unwavering support of the San Antonio community, the next decade promises to be filled with even more accomplishments and opportunities.The 10th Anniversary Dinner was not just a celebration of the past; it was a call to action for all members of the aviation community to continue supporting and empowering women in aviation.
